1000 PINTS OF LIGHT
If it looks like a beer, tastes like a beer, acts like
a beer...
Light beer is great in theory - it tastes
like beer, but doesn't make you look like a pregnant walrus
with bigger teats. Sadly, brewers have found it tough
to reduce calories without losing flavor. Fortunately,
there may be a lite at the end of the funnel. Meet Dr.
Joseph Owades, the man who, in 1967, invented the process
of lightening beer. Owades always felt big brew-ers botched
his technique, producing lights with unbalanced flavor.
To make his own light shine, he brews Edison using a
process designed to preserve flavor. We sampled the results
and had a mixed reaction. "It's like butter, only
it tastes more like beer: one taster wrote." "I
would drink this..." another said "...in a
parallel universe where it was the only liquid." In
the end Edison divided the office. Many felt it tasted
better
ban most
lights, but others were left in the dark. Our final
verdict: Edison tastes good and is smooth enough that
you could
chug a whole keg fairly quickly. (And if that don't
wow the ladies, nothing will!) At about $6.29 a sixer,
Edison
is in stores everywhere. Partake of this genius at
